Izakaya Dorinku has solidified their menu since my initial review and continues to be a favourite destination. Whether you are a large group or an intimate table of two, these dishes are sure to please. Recommendations: Hamachi Carpaccio, Chicken Karaage, Pressed Wild Salmon Sushi, Dorinku Ramen.
Spicy Tuna Tartare Tartare style chopped albacore tuna with spicy sauce and homemade cracker. This dish is on their “Today’s Special” menu but it’s one that I hope will stay. Perfect amount of heat and easy to share.
Pressed Wild Saba Sushi Seared and marinated wild mackerel sushi with mentaiko (marinated spicy code roe) topped with green onions and served with Japanese mint dressing.
Pressed Wild Salmon Sushi Wild sockeye salmon and avocado sushi served with Japanese mint and creamy soy sauce.
Ramen Salad Organic spring mix topped with egg noodles, pork chashu, soft boiled egg, cucumber, Japanese pickles, onions and sliced nori served with sesame soy dressing. An extremely filling salad!
Carbonara Udon Carbonara Japanese thick noodle with poach egg and bacon, served in hot stone bowl. This version is quite creamy and very rich!
Jewelry Bowl Diced sashimi, Japanese mint, pickled daikon and salmon roe, served on a bowl of sushi rice. Beautiful presentation and accurately named.
Age Mochi Mizore Oroshi Deep fried rice cake with grated daikon, shiso, bonito flakes and umami flavour.
Scallop Carpaccio Seared scallop with seaweed sauce.
Hamachi Carpaccio Seared yellowtail, mayonnaise and parmesan cheese served with sesame soy dressing and goji berry. My favourite!
Chicken Karaage Deep fried chicken served with green tea salt and chili mayonnaise. This dish still remains one of my favourites to order.
Dorinku Ramen Ramen noodles topped with binchotan charcoal grilled pork chashu, kaiware radish sprouts, green onions and shredded spicy pepper served in slow cooked pork and chicken broth. Chicken really pulls through in their version of ramen and is one of a kind in Edmonton.
