Recap: Iconoclast Koffiehuis Grand Opening

by Cindy

A few weeks ago I posted about Iconoclast Koffiehuis, one of Edmonton’s finest coffee roasters. This past weekend was their grand opening and boy, was it amazing to see the place transformed into a catered event. The idea here being that the space could be you and your friends’ next party! Jody and I came right at 7pm to avoid the crowds that came later in the night. The mood in the warehouse was fantastic!

Although it’s hard to overshadow the recycled coffee bar and the two large bay windows, D’Elle Event and Design did a fabulous job of setting up the space to make it all one cohesive look. A large table, comfortably seating eight, with beautiful settings and everything! Imagine hosting an engagement party here or a small, intimate wedding.

I wish I had a wedding coming soon just so I can book the space! Although Ryan Arcand, owner and coffee roasting connoisseur, was busy behind the bar for a majority of our stay, he still managed to have a quick convo with me and Jody before we headed out. He’s already got two weddings for the year and is pretty excited about the future. Missed his ping-pong table though, but I’m sure that will be back on days when no events are booked.

A dessert bar was set up displaying all sorts of goodies: chocolate covered strawberries, macarons, cookies, donuts, meringues, and even those old school rootbeer candy sticks! It was hard to stay away.

Catering was by Culina Catering (of Culina Family), one of my favorite restaurants. Absolutely delicious food circulating the room that night! The smoked salmon blini and the avocado puff pastry were just a couple hits for the night. Jody preferred the beef tenderloin and couldn’t help but take a second helping (as did I) of the bacon wrapped dates. All prepared in public view near the roasting equipment and packaging station of Iconoclast.

And if you happened to miss one of the two ladies walking around with the small bites, a table of cheeseboards by Cavern was readily available on the side wall. I don’t know how you can go wrong with cheese. Really.

With the shine and sparkle of the space, the focus was really on how Iconoclast can become your next space for a party! The coffee wasn’t featured as prominently as I thought it would, even though staff were serving the coffee at the bar. If you haven’t tried their coffee yet, go check it out during the day! Congratulations to Ryan and Iconoclast! I will be visiting soon, need a space to write more posts. Can’t wait until warmer weather rolls around to have those bay windows roll up. Will be gorgeous!

[…] Mack and I attended the Iconoclast Koffeehuis (11807 105 Avenue) opening on Saturday. The event seemed to showcase the space itself as a venue rather than the coffee, but it was a good opportunity for us to get acquainted with the place. While it is walkable, it’s not exactly convenient, so I’m not sure how often we will be frequenting Iconoclast. But at the very least, it seems to be a good addition to the city’s coffee scene! Cindy has much better photos of the evening here. […]
