Blue Plate Diner

First and foremost, happy new year to my readers! I’ve been MIA lately from the blogosphere mostly because I was in the holiday mood and didn’t want to do anything in particular except sleep and eat!

To get back into the swing of things, I’ll need to go all the way back to three weeks ago when I had brunch at Blue Plate Diner. My first time at the downtown hotspot was only a month prior and I didn’t think anything was special about it. Sausage, bacon, and eggs is sausage, bacon, and eggs almost anywhere. I had previously ordered the lemon ricotta pancakes, which were delicious for the first few bites, then tiresome by the end of the dish. On this particular morning though, Joe and I were lazy and I just wanted something close by and quick. Blue Plate Diner, you get a second chance!

Our “brunch” hour is usually noon or later, making it more lunch than most. We were seated quickly and by the time our meal arrived, half of the place was emptied of what looked like full and satisfied patrons.

Hot Chocolate & Coffee

Hot Chocolate & Coffee

To start, Joe had his coffee, and I had my usual hot chocolate. The hot chocolate here was very sweet, bordering overly sweet near the bottom of the cup.

Ranch Eggs

For my meal, I wanted something with a kick, so ranch eggs it was. With my choice of two over-medium eggs, rustic fried potatoes, a bean & rancho sauce blend that reminded me of chili, baked with cheese on crisp corn tortillas made me rethink my previous opinion of the place. With guacamole and sour cream to boot, this dish was perfect for what I was craving.

Eggs Benny

Joe ordered the eggs benny. From the couple of bites I had, it wasn’t anything spectacular but it was well done for what it was. My gold standard is still New York Bagel Cafe and Culina’s egg benedict!

Overall, the service was friendly and quick. If ever I’m in the lazy mood on a Saturday morning, which I’m sure I will be, I would try Blue Plate Diner again. Hopefully visit #3 will be just as good, if not better, than this visit!

Dinner at Blue Plate is a must. I had the Mac & Cheese yesterday and I was so satisfied. :)
